Hello! Halo! Priviet! Witam! Hola!
There are many blogs about "my way to MBA" and "which business school is best" but what about people who are NOT entirely sure yet whether MBA degree is the best choice for them?
I got my Masters degree almost 5 years ago.. Wow, it's been a while, time to make some decisions.
Should I continue working and take some extra weekend courses to improve my skills and qualifications or should I take a career brake and go for another degree? In such case; is PhD or an MBA program better?
Which one can give me a better post degree job and salary? Which one is more respected in the UK, where I now live, in my home country (Poland) and in all the countries I may move to (Germany, Spain, Spain) when I decide I need a change?
I haven't made any decisions yet but to be perfectly honest I need to admit the MBA seems to be most attractive education path at the moment; but then again, the cost of it and the admission requirements scare me to death!
This blog was created to keep the world up to date with my decision process and meet people in a similar situation. I would like to know what others think and share experience and thoughts.
Stay tuned! :)

Comparing a PhD to an MBA so generally is like comparing apples to oranges. PhD's are vital for academic jobs, MBA's are not. A PhD in science will mean you can apply for funding to conduct research. MBA won't help you there. After doing research you might invent something that you can start a business with. You don't need a phd or an MBA to invent something or to start a business though! I expect a PhD in a non-science has less obvious benefits than one in science. An MBA will get your resume read by banks and VC firms - a PhD likely won't unless you're applying for quant jobs only. A PhD might "pigeonhole" you as being too academic. An MBA will likely make managerial positions in companies easier to get - although in a lot of biotech/pharma, the PhD will still be a lot more respected.
It really depends on what you want to do. Asking which is best to do, MBA or PhD, is silly. Maybe you should read "What Color is my Parachute?" and then ask a more specific question.
